What makes this study a ‘first’?
There had been no published scientific study asking women about the specific ways anal touch is pleasurable.
Why does it matter?
In absence of established facts about anal touch, misinformation flourishes in culture and the media, which don’t reflect the repertoire of pleasurable types of touch that women can and do choose. When there aren’t even words for things, they’re literally made ‘unspeakable.' The language of sex is historically clinical or slang - not descriptive about what women enjoy and not in service to women.
Over a lifetime, individuals may discover only a third of the types of touch that have been surfaced in their studies. This new study reveals so many more ways anal touch can be pleasurable and describes the techniques, allowing women and their partners to experiment, identify what feels good, name it and communicate about it.
Being able to name what you like and what you want is instrumental in intimacy, self-knowledge, self-advocacy and pleasure. These effects come quickly when adults learn about more specific kinds of touch they enjoy, get descriptive words for them, and see they’re shared and ‘normal.’
